You may have watched 60 Minutes last Sunday evening when they broke the story about former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, who made a bundle of cash on IPOs using Insider Stock Trade information. The quirky part of the story is the fact that although she did nothing illegal, her actions were questionably unethical and a clear conflict of interest. As it turned out, it’s highly illegal for you and me, basic run-of-the-mill citizens to obtain and use any insider stock information in order to invest and profit, but it’s perfectly acceptable and routine and legal for elected officials in Washington to do it.
It seems that politicians exempted themselves from all of the insider trading laws and regulations that apply to “average citizens,” according to the findings of the Hoover Institution. If we tried such an investment stunt we could go to prison for years, have to pay a hefty fine, and essentially experience the ruination of one’s life. But as usual, politicians have direct access to secret stock trading information ranging from timely details on lucrative federal contracts to legislation that often triggers a companies’ stocks to rise and fall swiftly and significantly.

The great pretender: Who dares wear Freddie Mercury's crown? Each of them knew the power of cross-dressing, too: Freddie's turn in a leather skirt plus Hoover in the video for "I Want to Break Free" was pure drag, and Gaga's turn as the bequiffed "Calderone" was well, a bit odd, but you know what we mean. ... |
